The History of STRUCTURAL
The founders of STRUCTURAL
The founders of STRUCTURAL - Jim Schneider (left – Retired in 1989) and Peter Emmons (right – Current CEO).

In 1976, Peter Emmons, a civil engineer, and Jim Schneider, a salesman, both from Baltimore, Maryland founded Structural Preservation Systems based on an idea, and their combined collection of concrete tools packed into a 1964 Ford Galaxie. Their basic business concept was that existing infrastructure, especially when built with concrete, required a specialist to effectively address problems like corrosion, cracking and spalling.

From that idea, Structural Preservation Systems evolved to what ,today, is STRUCTURAL, a company that sustains and enhances customers’ infrastructure by integrating technology, engineering and construction, while providing an enriching work experience for their employees. STRUCTURAL’s primary focus is on concrete and masonry infrastructure.

STRUCTURAL is widely recognized for expertise in concrete. In 1993 Peter Emmons authored and published Concrete Repair and Maintenance Illustrated, a comprehensive book that describes the causes, effects and remedies for concrete wear and failure. STRUCTURAL has received many project awards over the years and maintains its leadership position in concrete repair and restoration.

STRUCTURAL has locations nationwide and in select international markets.
