The City of Lighthouse Point, a scenic suburb of Fort Lauderdale, is known for its boating community, connected by waterways and ten bridges. When eight of the bridges showed signs of concrete deterioration, the City initiated repairs to extend their lifespan until future replacement projects could be completed.

Although STRUCTURAL was awarded the project as a single contract, each of the eight bridges presented unique challenges that required tailored planning and execution. The extensive scope of work included concrete restoration, cathodic protection, and repairs to various other structural elements.

As the repairs progressed, the crew encountered several unforeseen obstacles. Many of the bridge piles were in worse condition than anticipated, and it became increasingly difficult to maintain traffic flow. These bridges serve as the primary access points for many residents, making it essential to keep them operational. Shoring the bridges also proved challenging, as installing supports in the waterway was unsafe due to strong currents, which threatened to destabilize any temporary structures.

To overcome these challenges, STRUCTURAL collaborated with a shoring engineer to develop an innovative shoring plan that ensured safety and minimized disruption to the community. Despite the obstacles, the project was successfully completed on schedule and within budget, ensuring the continued functionality and safety of the community’s vital bridges.
